I am student teacher at Dundee University taking on a six week non-school placement. This placement module is called Learning for Life and every student is taking on a different challenge. Everyone involved arranged their own placement, all with different organisations and charities, most working throughout Scotland but others as far afield as Greece and Sri Lanka. This blog will follow my time with TreeZone, an aerial assault course in Aviemore, and Boots 'n' Paddles, an outdoor activity provider based in Cabrich north of Inverness.
The new Curriculum for Excellence guidelines on outdoor learning give new weight to the important role the outdoors plays as a learning environment, especially in relation to the health and wellbeing outcomes and experiences. I also have a keen interest in several outdoor pursuits ranging from rock-climbing to kayaking and canoeing. I wanted to find a way to connect my experience and interests to an educational context.
I am going to post photographs, details of my placement and reflections on my experiences.
